Investing Workers' Capital in Green Jobs: How Responsible Pension Fund Investments Can Build Clean Energy, Green Construction & Sustainable Industries
Workshop Session III: Tuesday, May
4, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.
Concentration: Business, Investment and New Markets
Labor unions have billions of dollars worth of assets housed in a range of investment vehicles. As the scourge of hedge funds, over leveraged real estate deals and other risky investments destroy jobs, companies and whole communities, an increasing number of Taft Hartley and public pension funds are exploring how a portion of their capital can be put to work in responsible investments, creating long-term wealth for communities and shareholders. This session will examine how 'worker-friendly' funds in the U.S & Canada are producing positive returns and jobs by investing in renewable energy and infrastructure, green construction and sustainable industries.
