Ensuring Not Just Green, But SAFE Jobs

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, 4,547 workers died on the job in 2010. That is 4,547 people whose families sent them off to work thinking it was a day of work just like every day, but had their lives forever changed when their loved one didn’t come home.

As part of the Good Jobs, Green Jobs Regional Conferences, we will be holding workshops that talk about the importance of ensuring the new jobs being created in the green economy are not only sustainable, but  also safe. Some of these workshops include:

  • Green or Not: Safety is the Law Although some of the jobs being created in the green economy are new and unique, many of the hazards faced by workers are fairly commonplace. During this workshop at our Southern and Western Conferences, panelists will discuss the hazards seen at green jobs — including fall, lockout/tagout and confined space hazards — along with the OSHA requirements and health-training programs that apply to these hazards.
  • Preventing Chemical Disasters Protects Workers, Communities and Creates Jobs At Good Jobs, Green Jobs East, Rick Hind, the Legislative Director of Greenpeace, will moderate a panel of experts from labor, environmental and chemical safety groups as they discuss cost-effective ways to reduce risks workers and Americans face from chemical disasters.
  • Environmental Justice: The Catalyst for Green Jobs and Equitable Development This workshop at Good Jobs, Green Jobs Midwest will discuss how the environmental justice movement has addressed worker safety, as well as encouraged job growth, entrepreneurship, and sustainable wealth creation.

These are only a few of the workshops talking about worker safety at our four Good Jobs, Green Jobs Regional Conferences. Register now in order so you know you will be able to get into all the workshops you’d like!
