WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 7, 2009) The Blue Green Alliance announced today that the 2010 Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference will be held May 4-6 in Washington, D.C. at the Washington Hilton. The event focuses on transforming ideas into action and revitalizing the nation by building a green economy that creates good jobs, reduces global warming and preserves America’s economic and environmental security.
“This year’s Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference comes at a pivotal time, as America is working to build a green economy,” said United Steelworkers International President Leo W. Gerard. “Now, it’s time to ensure that we create good jobs that support our families and our communities — revitalizing the American economy and protecting the environment for future generations.”
The 2010 Conference will build on the success of the 2009 event in Washington, D.C., which brought together nearly 3,000 labor, environmental and business advocates to share ideas and strategies for building a new, green economy. The 2009 Conference was convened by more than 80 labor unions, environmental organizations, non-profits and businesses, and featured speeches from U.S. EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, Senators Sherrod Brown, Amy Klobuchar and Debbie Stabenow, and United Nations Environment Programme Executive Director Achim Steiner.
“The Good Jobs, Green Jobs Conference brings together the stakeholders in a new, green economy, whether they are environmentalists, business leaders or workers,” said Carl Pope, Executive Director of the Sierra Club. “This year’s Conference will focus on taking those ideas and putting them to work across the United States.”
The 2010 Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference is coordinated by the Blue Green Alliance, a national partnership of labor unions and environmental organizations. “We are thrilled to coordinate this Conference in Washington, D.C. as America goes about the task of building a green economy,” said Executive Director David Foster.
