The Green Economic Revolution in an Urban Context
Workshop Session III: Tuesday, May
4, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.
Concentration: Transportation, Urban Planning and Equitable Development
President Obama has championed the green revolution as a viable means to boost the economy. The greening of cities presents an opportunity to lower the emissions that cause global warming, and can result in jobs in the urban environment. This session explores how to bring sustainable solutions to low-income neighborhoods, and strengthen the intrinsic environmental values of residents. Said values could include creating neighborhood gardens, weatherizing buildings, and installing greywater filter systems. Panelists will discuss effectively employing residents where they are needed most, and will explore opportunities for job and business growth in the green economy.
