Infrastructure and Job Creation: A Priority for Urban America
Workshop Session II: Tuesday, May 4,
2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Concentration: Transportation, Urban Planning and Equitable Development
Politically speaking, the
severity of job losses in the nation is only eclipsed by the woes of America’s
ailing infrastructure. After a generation of neglect, the task of rebuilding
our infrastructure is a national economic policy priority. At this juncture in
the nation’s history, infrastructure upgrades and job creation are not mutually
exclusive goals; we need to immediately address both problems. This session
explores the once in a generation opportunity for job creation by restoring and
upgrading neglected infrastructure such as bridges, roads, wastewater systems,
and schools. Panelists will examine what it will take to create millions of new
jobs, as well as share observations on U.S. competitiveness and environmental
sustainability.
