Clean Transportation and Good Jobs: Building America’s Transportation Manufacturing Sector
Workshop Session IV: Wednesday, May 5, 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Concentration: Transportation, Urban Planning and Equitable Development
Congress has an opportunity to re-shape national transportation policy priorities and create millions of new jobs as it considers the reauthorization of transportation bill. Federal funding for transit would increase to nearly $100 billion over six years under the proposal by Congressman Jim Oberstar, Chair of the House Transportation Committee, spurring demand for domestically-manufactured transit vehicles. To leverage future investments in stronger transit into new, high-quality jobs in the manufacture of transit systems, vehicles and components, the Apollo Alliance has convened a Transportation Manufacturing Advisory Committee (TMPA) to advise the development of a federal transportation manufacturing policy platform. This panel will bring together participants of this diverse coalition to discuss the project and the process of coalition building on this important issue.
