Building Better Cities: Green Construction for a Cleaner Environment and a More Equitable Economy
Workshop Session III: Tuesday, May 4, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.
Concentration: Transportation, Urban Planning and Equitable Development
We face a real challenge to align construction industry and government policy standards with environmental goals. Real strategies to do so go far beyond the current emphasis on residential retrofits, and could not only create a healthier environment, but also develop new career opportunities for low-income workers and workers of color. Concern for environmental hazards, urban inequality and workers’ needs underlies the green construction careers model. This workshop will showcase the creative and exciting version of this model being developed in Los Angeles, Denver and Massachusetts, and a parallel effort to incorporate green construction careers into federal policy.
