Climate Policy Integration in Canada and the U.S.: Opportunities, Pitfalls and Implications

The Canadian government intends to integrate its climate policy with the United States, and has been lobbying to secure continued U.S. demand for tar sands oil. This presentation will focus on the current status of climate policy between the U.S. and Canada, how the expected tripling of tar sands emissions will impact Canadian and U.S. climate efforts and energy security, strategies to avoid carbon leakage and mitigate job impact of uneven application of carbon pricing, the implications of integration of climate policy for green jobs and environmental outcomes, and opportunities for cross-border collaboration on climate and energy policy.
