Recycling, Jobs, and Climate Change
Workshop Session II: Tuesday, May 4,
2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Concentration: State and Local Initiatives/Other
Recycling is a proven, efficient way to create jobs and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. What are the obstacles to transforming local waste economies into resource recovery economies? How do we make sure the jobs we create are good, sustainable jobs, safe for workers and communities? Why are we subsidizing landfilling and incineration with millions of federal dollars, while recycling is underfunded and ignored? Recycling workers, public agency representatives, industry advocates and activists discuss how we can get our communities on track to develop local resource recovery systems that provide good jobs and drastically reduce our impact on the environment
Presenters:
Christie Keith, Global Anti-Incinerator Alliance, Global Coordinator
Steph Sherer, Recycling Works!, Director
Greg Good, Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy, Waste Campaign Director
