Manufacturing Recovery: Using the Recovery Act to Scale Up Clean Energy Manufacturing
Workshop Session IV: Wednesday, May 5, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Concentration: Greening the Manufacturing Sector and Other Industries
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 included $90 billion of investments in the clean energy economy, and strong domestic sourcing (or “Buy American”) requirements for public works projects supported by Recovery Act funds. Given this level of investment, and supporting policy tools, the Recovery Act presents an important opportunity to support American manufacturers of the inputs, components, and goods of the clean energy economy. It also presents the challenges of building and bringing to scale clean energy manufacturing — to meet demand and to link manufacturers to markets. The session’s speakers will provide different perspectives on how the Recovery Act is working for American manufacturing, and share best practices on how to ensure that it works better.
Presenters:
Jason Walsh, BlueGreen Alliance, Director of Policy and Strategic Partnerships
Benjamin Goldstein, Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, EERE Recovery Act Buy American Coordinator
