Greener Skills and Greener Standards: A Status Report on the State of Green Job Training
Workshop Session I: Tuesday, May 4, 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Concentration: Education, Innovative Learning and Training
Who’s training whom for what? Everyone’s talking about green jobs and the skills required to do them, but uncoordinated investment in greening the American workforce threatens to create more chaos in an already cluttered U.S. training system. This session assesses the state of “green” training (a tumult of often inconsistent credentials and competencies across industries, employers, and institutions). After highlighting current trends in workforce development for clean energy sectors, four national experts will discuss policy options for implementing a greener, more coherent credentialing system — and ensuring equitable access.
Moderator:
Jeannine La Prad, Corporation for a Skilled Workforce, President and CEO
Presenters:
Marcy Drummond, Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, Vice President for Workforce and Economic Development
Jane Weissman, Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Executive Director
Sarah White, Center on Wisconsin Strategy, Senior Associate
