Department of Labor Funded Partnerships: Training Workers for the Clean Energy Economy
Workshop Session I: Tuesday, May 4, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Concentration: Education, Innovative Learning and Training
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) included $500 million to train workers for the clean energy economy. Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Labor awarded a significant proportion of these ARRA grants through its Energy Training Partnership Program. The awardees included the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation and five of its union partners which are leading partnerships to train workers for family-sustaining careers in green industry sectors that include manufacturing, building operations and maintenance, energy efficiency building and retrofits, transportation, wind, and solar. This session’s speakers will provide a snapshot of the kinds of training partnerships that BGA partners union have developed, and their initial efforts to provide career pathways for workers in different industries of the green economy.
